People shine brighter when they feel safe enough to soften. That belief shapes everything I create — from the stories I share in Along the Way to the way I photograph people as they create and share meaningful, heart-led work.

My work has gently evolved through the leaps I’ve taken, the moments I’ve stepped beyond my comfort zone, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way—and now I focus on brand photography for women who are ready to be seen in a way that feels honest, warm, and true.

It Began, Along the Way

Along the Way began as a way to shine light on the people, stories, and small moments that uplift us as we move through life.

In many ways, it is also the heart of my photography work.

Whether I am photographing a landscape, sharing a story, capturing a yoga teacher, or creating brand images for a woman bravely building something of her own, I am always looking for the same thing:

the honest moment, the gentle light, and the story that is ready to be seen.

Whether we meet through the magazine, in front of the camera, or somewhere along the way, my hope is to help people feel more connected — to themselves, to one another, and to the deeper meaning behind what they are here to create.

Dr. Gordon Kanzer discovered yoga after a long career as a Radiologist and medical author. His continued desire to help people led him to Kripalu's yogic philosophy of self-observation without judgment and to the practice of kindness and compassion. He writes from his personal experience of the transformative effects of yoga, which helped him overcome inflexibility in body and mind in the pursuit of a meaningful yoga practice.

Soon after starting her yoga journey, she decided to become an instructor herself to pass on this crucial knowledge to others who were also struggling.

Susan Smedley is a 28-year lung cancer survivor and former social worker who worked in the national lung cancer community for 15 years. As a yoga instructor trained in oncology and trauma-aware yoga, she now brings this integrated approach to healing through her yoga and wellness studio, Resilient Soul Yoga in Loveland, Colorado.
Allan Haas

Creative, Traveler, Writer
Allan earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and also studied at the Layton School of Art. He further enhanced his skills in design at a prestigious program at King's College, Cambridge, England and studied with photographer Alfredo Falvo, Tuscany, Italy. Allan has been a Matterport National Preferred Service Provider for over 15 years, completing 360° virtual tour projects throughout the Midwest, Mexico and Italy.

Her greatest accomplishment, however, is being a proud mom to two teenagers whom she has raised as a solo parent since they were toddlers—balancing the role with strength, love, and a bit of chaos.

Michele Chillook

Michele Chillook was born and raised in Northwest Illinois and moved to Dubuque in 2000 to pursue a career in cosmetology. Love of this town was sparked immediately upon driving through the downtown area in the first week of her arrival. In the fall of 2005, Michele stumbled into a run down old warehouse for some free drinks--what she later learned to be the inauguration of a recurring pop-up art gallery--and never wanted to leave.
Ryan Wayne & Jaeger

Ryan began practicing yoga in 2008 to support his fitness pursuits and later completed his 200-hour YTT and 100-hour Pranayama training. Today, he teaches Vinyasa, slow flow, and Yin with an emphasis on breath, alignment, and music.
A longtime cyclist and former mountain bike coach, Ryan also loves hiking with his dog Jager, paddle boarding, family time, and camping under the stars. He calls Surya Yoga home, where he teaches, offers sound experiences, co-leads retreats, and hosts workshops throughout the Valley.
